Biography
Karl Krause, euphoniumist with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, freelance musician, and studio instructor is a sought after performer, clinician, and teacher. He did his formal training at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas on scholarship as a euphonium performance major, with Dr. Kevin Wass. While at Texas Tech he made his mark by performing and recording as principal euphonium with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, and made notable performances at competitions. After graduating from Tech he went to be one of three graduate students out of a large pool of international applicants selected for study at the Royal Northern College of Music, with euphonium legend Steven Mead. While at the Royal Northern he performed with the RNCM Brass Band, Wind Orchestra, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble and with many of the world famous brass bands in the UK, and earned noteworthy acclaim at many national and international solo competitions. He as also done further study with some of the brass worlds most respected teachers including, Roger Bobo, Demondrea Thurman, and David Thornton. Karl is an accomplished artist with an extensive knowledge of solo literature and is widely known as a versatile and virtuosic musician. He currently performs and records with Dallas' newest professional wind band, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and performs as soloist and a freelance trombonist in the Dallas, Ft. Worth metroplex. Karl has been a guest artist/clinician at the Texas Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference, Great Plains Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference, and the South Central Tuba/Euphonium Conference. He has been guest soloist with many ensembles and his performances have taken him all over the U.S. and abroad. Karl in addition to an extensive performance schedule he also places high emphasis on music education and maintains a very large and active private studio with 70 tuba, euphonium and trombone students ranging in ages from 11-18 years old. His students consistently place in region and all-state bands as well as achieve first divisions and state advancements to solo and ensemble contests. He is in high demand as a clinician and consultant in the area, and is dedicated to the continued awareness of the euphonium as a significant solo instrument. As a result, Karl has premiered several new works for solo euphonium, most recently a piece by John Wasson that was commissioned for him by the Evans Middle School Band in McKinney, Texas. Karl's solo performances have met with high acclaim and a recent performance that was described as "among the best I've ever witnessed" by Mr. Randol Bass, Music Director for the Metropolitan Winds.
